Integration

Get the charge under each voltammetric peak, integrated automatically during peak finding, for surface coverage, coulombic efficiency, and deposited mass.

Charge is the integral of current. Converting a current trace into surface coverage, deposited mass, or coulombic efficiency requires integration.

Studio does this automatically. When peak finding runs on a voltammogram, the charge under each peak is integrated and reported alongside the peak, with no region to select and no baseline to set.

When to use it

How it works

When peak finding runs on a voltammogram, Studio finds the inflection points on each side of a peak, draws a baseline between them, and integrates the area between the trace and that baseline. That area is the charge Q for the peak.

Q is the time integral of current through the peak window (Q = ∫ i dt), reported in coulombs or millicoulombs. The anodic peak gets Qa and the cathodic peak gets Qc, in the same tooltip as Epa / Ipa.

Parameters

Baseline

Typical: Automatic

Drawn automatically between the inflection points on each side of the peak. There is nothing to adjust.

Integration variable

Typical: Time

Integration is with respect to time, so Q comes out as a charge in coulombs (Q = ∫ i dt).

Reported as

Qa under the anodic peak and Qc under the cathodic peak, shown in the peak tooltip next to the position and height.

Example

Walkthrough

Surface coverage of a ferrocene self-assembled monolayer

  1. 1Run a slow CV (50 mV/s) over the ferrocene redox peak.
  2. 2Click the Pk badge. Studio marks the peak and integrates the charge under it automatically.
  3. 3Read Qa from the peak tooltip, in coulombs.
  4. 4Γ = Q / (nFA). For a 1-electron transfer on a 0.07 cm² disc, calculate accordingly.

Result

The peak charge Q in coulombs, from an automatically placed baseline, ready for the Γ calculation.

In Sensitify Studio

Integration runs automatically as part of peak finding in Sensitify Studio. Click the Pk badge and the charge under each voltammetric peak appears in the tooltip with its position and height, no region to select and no baseline to set.
